Emergency callouts · Sheffield

Something unsafe? Switch it off and ring.

Urgent electrical callouts across Sheffield, Monday to Friday within working hours. If there’s a burning smell, scorching or anyone getting a shock, isolate the circuit first and then call.

Do this first, before you ring. Go to the consumer unit and switch off the breaker for the affected circuit — or the main switch if you’re not sure which one it is. That single step removes the danger in most electrical emergencies. Then call 07597 457565.

What counts as an emergency

Not every electrical problem is urgent, and it helps to know the difference so you’re not sat in the dark waiting when you didn’t need to be.

Ring straight away

  • A burning or fishy smell from a socket, switch or the consumer unit.
  • Scorch marks, browning or melted plastic around an accessory.
  • Anything warm or hot to the touch that shouldn’t be.
  • A shock or tingle from an appliance, a tap or a radiator.
  • Sparking, arcing or a bang followed by a loss of power.
  • Water reaching wiring, a consumer unit or sockets.
  • Exposed live conductors after damage — a drilled cable, a broken accessory.

Important, but it can be booked in

  • One circuit tripping repeatedly with nothing overheating — that’s fault finding.
  • A dead socket or a light that’s stopped working.
  • A fuse board you think is past its best — see consumer units.

When we can get to you

Emergency and same-day callouts run Monday to Friday, within working hours. We’d rather tell you that plainly than advertise round-the-clock cover and not answer.

Outside those hours, leave a message or email and it’s picked up the next working day. If the situation is genuinely dangerous and it’s the middle of the night, isolate the circuit at the consumer unit — that makes it safe to wait. If the smell of burning persists after isolating, or you can see fire, call 999.

Total loss of power to the whole property is often not ours to fix. If your neighbours are off too, or the cut-out fuse before your meter has failed, that’s the distribution network operator’s responsibility, not an electrician’s. Ring 105 — it’s free and it routes you to the right network operator. We’ll tell you if that’s what it sounds like rather than charging you to come and say so.

What happens on the visit

The first job is making the installation safe, not finishing the repair — those are sometimes the same visit and sometimes not. We isolate what needs isolating, establish what failed, and tell you what’s needed before doing further work.

You’ll get a straight answer on whether it’s a repair, a replacement or a symptom of something broader. Repeated failures across different circuits in an older property usually point to the installation as a whole, which is an EICR rather than another patch.

There’s no charge to come and look, and quotes are free. Diagnostic work and repairs are chargeable, and we agree that with you before starting.

If there's a burning smell, scorching or anyone getting a shock, switch the circuit off and ring 07597 457565 rather than using the form. For anything that can wait for a reply, send it over here.

Common questions

Things people ask

Do you cover nights and weekends?

No. Emergency and same-day callouts are Monday to Friday within working hours. Outside that, isolate the affected circuit at the consumer unit and leave a message — it’s picked up the next working day. If there’s fire or persistent burning after isolating, call 999.

Is there a callout charge?

No charge to come and look, and quotes are free. The diagnostic work and any repair are chargeable, agreed with you before we start.

The whole house has no power. Is that an emergency callout?

Possibly not one for us. If neighbours are also off, or the sealed fuse before your meter has failed, it’s the network operator’s job — ring 105, which is free. We’ll say so rather than charge you to attend.

Can you make it safe and come back later?

Often that’s exactly the right approach. Making the installation safe takes minutes; a proper repair may need a part or a longer slot. You’ll know which it is while we’re there.
